Google! First resource for most anything. Fastest way to get answers to questions about Java issues. Does help to have broadband, of course. Remind me, from time to time that not everybody does have broadband.

The Sun tutorials are super.

• Trail: Creating a GUI with JFC/Swing: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/index.html "Trail" is their name for a section, approximately.
• An index page, with links, for the Swing tutorials. Run these, read the explanations, and you will have a huge start on GUI building. http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/learn/example-1dot4/index.html You can even run them from there, without downloading anything, to get a sense of what they are and approximately how elaborate and difficult.
